N.B. This is NOT an official Syllabus


This is basically a lecture course but discussions and questions 
are encouraged. We will cover the whole historical period from 
Ancient Times to the present focusing on the near East, Egypt, the 
Mediterranean, West and East Europe, the Balkans and Russia.  The 
general focal point of the lectures and the discussions will be 
the economic trends of the period. Some theoretical aspects will 
also be discussed.

Students' performance will be based on two essay tests (a mid-term 
and a final) and a short (up to 10 pages) paper. The mid-term 
counts for 30% of the total grade, the final for 50% and the paper 
for 20%. Although the final is not comprehensive it is expected 
that students will do better. All dates will be announced during 
the first week of classes.
